I love cake stands ... they're so uplifting (no pun intended), making anything on the stand a little more important, a bit more festive.
So how is it that my "collection" only contains two?
{Does 2 cake stands make a "collection" ... probably not!}
"Two will do" when you know a tip for making
sturdy, stable, and serviceable, temporary cake stands.
Of course, you can still purchase cake stands, but when you need just one more in a pinch, this tip could come in handy! No messy, smelly glues used ... my tip is almost instant!

----- DIY Temporary Cake Stands ----
Take Museum Putty (available at house goods, hardware stores, and sometimes art supply stores) ...
{The Museum Putty: a miracle removable putty that holds securely, per the label. I agree.}
Add a plate and a base such as a candle sticks - any style, candles in glass containers with lids, decorative containers ... anything with a level surface and enough of a lip / edge that the putty can be applied.
But be logical in your pairings: a large platter requires a wide base to not topple over, smaller dishes can be paired with more narrow bases ... the topple issue is one of balance not how the plate and base are attached per this tip.

{Wide candle sticks work well, so do candles in glass containers with lids. This set of 3 mercury glass candle sticks work nicely on a holiday table.}
And make sturdy, secure, and serviceable temporary "cake stands" and serving pedestals like these:
{A temporary Cake Stand / serving pedestal using a candle in a glass jar. The Museum Putty holds the plate securely so it won't be knocked off during use.}
{More temporary Cake Stands / Serving Pedestals this time using large, wide base, candle sticks and plates. Once again, the plates are secured with Museum Putty.}
Have heirloom plates from Grandma you wouldn't consider gluing to a base? You don't have too ... using Museum Putty opens a whole new realm of objects you can consider for making cake stands to use on special tables.
Or you can use all the creative ideas found on blogs for cake stands made from ... anything and everything ... you just don't have to use glue if you don't want to.
When you're done using the cake stand, separate the plate and stand by twisting per the package instructions, hand wipe then wash to ensure all residue is removed, and store the plate as normal.
Sometimes, depending on how long the putty has been exposed to the air, you can just make a pancake out of it and return it to the packaging to be used again :)
And even though the Museum Putty will be on the underside (bottom) of the plate and not making contact with food, I want to point out the important fine print on the back of the package: NON-TOXIC blended rubber putty.

With Museum Putty you can be the hostess with the "most-est" cake stands!
Enjoy, set a festive table, and party on!
